The World Technology Games, a new global competition aimed at promoting and showcasing scientific advancement, has announced its inaugural event for Q3 2026. The five day festival will feature gaming and technology competitions as well as a business leadership summit.

The World Technology Games will split its competitions into two categories: Spotlights and Originals. Spotlight events will be held in partnership with established leagues, including its first two partners — the Indy Autonomous Challenge and the Global Esports Federation. The event is currently seeking league partnerships including those with more “traditional” esports.

Meanwhile, Originals will allow WTG to host competitions for a wider variety of events that might not have established leagues. Each Original must highlight scientific rigor, real-world application and technological acumen. The event does not have a schedule yet, but some examples included culinary arts, sustainable fashion design, robotics, drone racing and more.

The team behind the World Technology Games

Alexander Brown, CEO of the World Technology Games, announced the event at the UNESCO “Change the Game” Global Sport Conference ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. Prior to WTG, Brown held leadership positions at traditional sports leagues and media companies including Univision, ONE World Sports and most recently Major League Lacrosse.

“We built the World Technology Games to inspire people around the world to create technological solutions for today’s most formidable challenges,” said Brown. “Our first-of-its-kind international event will convene brilliant minds from diverse backgrounds to compete, collaborate, and catalyze change at global scale.”

Paul J. Foster is also a key leader at the WTG, serving as the chairman of the board. Foster is also the CEO of the Global Esports Federation. Founded in 2019, the GEF is a global organization modeled after the Olympics. Its country-based member federations send teams to its annual competition. Prior to GEF, Foster worked for the International Olympic Committee for 15 years.

Given its shared leadership, its perhaps unsurprising that there are multiple ties between the World Technology Games and the Global Esports Federation. GEF is one of WTG’s founding league partners. Additionally, the GEF sponsored the UNESCO event where WTG was first announced.
