The Australian labradoodle is a very popular dog breed among families, and for good reason. This hybrid of a Labrador retriever and a poodle is known for its intelligence, friendliness and hypoallergenic coat. They make excellent pets and service dogs, and it’s pretty easy to adopt a labradoodle puppy from a reputable breeder.

Adopting an Australian labradoodle puppy is a great option for anybody who is looking for a great service dog or a loyal pet for their family. Here are just a few reasons why.

A Non-Shedding Coat

Allergies to pet dander often prevent people from owning dogs, even if they love animals and want a pet for their family. These people would be happy to hear that Australian labradoodles have hypoallergenic, non-shedding coats. You may still find pieces of fur here and there if you have a labradoodle puppy, but an Australian labradoodle effectively stops shedding after losing its puppy coat. This makes them perfect for those with asthma, allergies to pet dander or even people who just don’t want to have to vacuum a lot of fur from carpets and upholstery.

The one downside to having a pet with a non-shedding coat is that its fur does need to be groomed regularly. A labradoodle’s fur can become severely matted if it doesn’t receive some grooming once a year, but this is a small price to pay for a pet that can be kept even by someone who is severely allergic to animal dander.

Pets of All Sizes

Another reason why Australian labradoodles make such great pets is because they aren’t exceptionally large animals. Most labradoodles are medium-sized dogs, meaning they grow to be about 30 to 45 pounds and stand about 20 inches tall. Many breeders also sell miniature labradoodles that stand between 12 and 16 inches tall and weigh between 15 and 23 pounds. In other words, a miniature labradoodle is perfect for families who cannot have a large dog yet do not want a pet that is too small, and a full-grown labradoodle is still small enough for a modest home.

A Friendly and Intelligent Companion

Australian labradoodles are intelligent enough to sense the emotions of their owners. This makes them wonderful companions and excellent therapy dogs for those who live with depression or have special needs. They do require a lot of attention from their owners, but they are great at providing love and attention in return.

Great Around Children

Australian labradoodles are generally calm, quiet dogs. Even miniature labradoodles aren’t known for being too yappy or excitable. Their patient, calm demeanor makes them great for homes with children or those who simply don’t want a pet that gets too “wild.” Australian labradoodles also learn very quickly, making them easy to train. Owners and obedience trainers will still have to take the time to train their labradoodle puppies from a young age, but they will be happy to know that this training will come easily to their new pets.

As calm and friendly as a labradoodle can be, they can also be very playful. Labradoodles were bred in part from Labrador retrievers, which means they have a strong retrieving instinct. They love to play fetch, and they can make excellent hunting dogs.
