Maintenance Makes a Huge Difference in Your HVAC’s Life Cycle

by | Apr 24, 2016 | Energy Feature

Your HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system is vital to your home’s temperature and air quality. It exchanges outside and inside air and filters that air, providing quality air ready to be used for heating or cooling.

Maintenance isn’t usually the first thing on your mind, until something breaks. However, having regular maintenance can prevent many costly problems from popping up.

Without proper maintenance of your HVAC system, you may begin to notice that the air doesn’t seem to be as fresh or as cool as it used to be in the summer or that your furnace is working harder in the winter. You wil also notice that your energy bills have crept up.

You may have even noticed more illnesses in your family, as improperly maintained HVAC systems are not able to remove dust, allergens, or airborne bacteria as they should. A lack of HVAC maintenance can lead to more costly repairs or even more frequent replacement of HVAC appliances that could be avoided through regular maintenance.

Regular maintenance in the spring and fall can save you up to 20% of your energy costs. Spring maintenance will result in checking everything from thermostat settings, electrical connections, moving parts, and refrigerant levels, as well as a good general cleaning. Fall maintenance will consist of a similar process, but on your furnace instead of your air conditioner.
