Few Condos Remain as Buyers Snap Up Units at Mizrahi Developments’ 128 Hazelton

Homebuyers thinking of buying a condo at newly minted 128 Hazelton Avenue in Toronto’s Yorkville neighborhood are running out of both time and units, with only a few units remaining.

128 Hazelton is being built by Mizrahi Developments, a private Toronto-based real estate development company specializing in the high-end luxury market and led by Sam Mizrahi, the company’s President and founder.

128 Hazelton is one of the the latest Mizrahi projects in Toronto and replaces Yorkville’s Hakim Optical building. It is also the last of three classically designed condo developments in the community that includes 181 Davenport and 133 Hazelton, both of which were also developed by Sam Mizrahi and his team.

With more than a decade behind him as a Toronto real estate developer, Mizrahi has built a reputation of being a meticulous, detail-oriented builder who takes a personal hand in all aspects of the construction process.   Simultaneously, he has built a company, Mizrahi Developments, that takes an enormous amount of pride in “creating homes that are sanctuaries for those who live in the buildings and a visual enhancement for those in the community who live with the streetscape.”

In describing 128 Hazelton, Mizrahi told Buzz Buzz News that the development in many ways represents a final opportunity for homebuyers searching in the Yorkville neighborhood of Toronto, explaining that:  “128 Hazelton is the last of its kind on Hazelton. There’s no more land available and the heritage overlay on Hazelton Avenue put in place by the Heritage Conservation District doesn’t allow you to build anything else, so this truly is the last product of its kind.”

128 Hazelton’s website notes that this “small boutique midrise in Yorkville, Toronto” is luxurious not only because of its features, but because “a limited edition of anything – whether it is a home or a watch or an object, a piece of furniture or a vintage wine – is the highest expression of luxury. Only a few exist. Those who understand its allure will know its value. They will treasure its rarity and feel a sense of privilege in the pleasure it provides.”

With an eye always directed toward creating developments that enhance the neighborhoods they are in, Mizrahi opted to go ‘timeless’ in building an architectural marvel inspired by the high-end craftsmanship and architecture in European cities like Paris and Vienna. Paying tribute to the past by utilizing traditional architecture while incorporating a modern aesthetic, Mizrahi found a like-minded partner in AUDAX Architecture, the Toronto-based architectural firm that helped bring vision and design philosophy to 128 Hazelton.

Gianpiero Pugliese, founding principal at AUDAX Architecture, says great architecture should look to the best of what history has to offer, while never taking its eye off the features that modern condo buyers expect.

“Human Architecture is really the marriage of the best elements of traditional design with a modern aesthetic so it’s kind of a hybrid. It asks how do you build today with a respect for the past and take the best elements from that historical architecture and make it work with our contemporary lifestyles and needs?”

As the development of 128 Hazelton nears its final phase, another Mizrahi development continues to move forward, one located at 1451 Wellington in Ottawa, an upcoming development that will include a $1.5 million sales centre.

The design of 1451 Wellington will be reminiscent of other Mizrahi Developments projects, while at the same time reflecting Ottawa’s unique style and history.  In developing 1451 Wellington, Mizrahi Developments completed detailed research into what makes Ottawa condo residents unique, research that included a careful consideration of traffic at the site’s intersection.  The firm was also careful to be respectful of the building’s location at the corner of Wellington Street West and Island Park Drive.

Catering to a high-end clientele, 1451 Wellington will include a range of amenities typical of Mizrahi Developments’ buildings, including a spa, gym, theatre, indoor saltwater pool, 24-hour concierge and valet parking services.  The development’s units will also feature 10-foot ceilings and the ability for residents to customize their condominiums, a quality that’s become a signature to the Mizrahi Developments’ brand.

Sam Mizrahi’s past developments have all sold out in an impressively short amount of time. Consider, for example, 181 Davenport, one of Mizrahi’s first developments, half the units of which sold out within 60 days of being on the market.

Will 1451 Wellington prove as successful as Mizrahi’s past Toronto developments?

Only time will tell, but Mizrahi has shown a commitment to craftsmanship and classical design that has proven irresistible up to now.
