In 23rd Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the Canadian ice dancers, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir made the whole world swoon with their stunning and historic performance. Their journey and success is the perfect fairy tale that can sum up the magic of Winter Olympics.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir have been ice dancing partners for twenty years. They first started skating as partners as eight and ten years old and since then they have shared each and every moment of their professional life. They have not just shared success but also gone through injuries and tough moments.

Their gold medal in Pyeongchang was not an easy task as their rivals put up a highest free dance score. But Virtue and Moir managed to edge out their French rivals Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron by 0.79 points and clinched the gold medal, becoming the most decorated figure skaters of all time with five Olympic medals to their name.

Virtue and Moir became skating partners at a very young age and they started experiencing success early on. They won the World Junior title in 2006 and after that started competing in senior events. They won Bronze in the Four Continents Champion in 2006 and 2007. After tasting success they faced a difficult time as in 2008 Virtue was tested positive for chronic exertional compartment syndrome.

After a long recovery period, they pair regrouped in 2009 and started their preparation to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics that was going to take place in Vancouver. Despite all the challenges the pair managed to win Gold and became the first North Americans to do so in ice dance. They were also the youngest winners. The occasion was made extra special by the fact that they won it in their own country, in front of their people.

In 2014 Olympic Games they took home a silver medal in ice dance. After the Sochi Olympics, the pair returned to competition in 2016 and completely dominated the 2016-17 seasons. The broke personal best records, took home skate Canada International, NHK Trophy Japan and Grand Prix final France, World Championship 2017, Four Continents Champion South Korea 2017 and National Championship 2017.

It was the perfect season leading up to the 2018 Olympics. They were the honored as flag bearers and led the Canadians in the opening ceremony. They did not disappoint as they enchanted the audience with their performance in the team event managing to win a gold medal. Their performance in the main ice dance competition was out of this world and it earned them their second gold medal of 2018 Olympics.

A twenty-year partnership is unique in any sports. The chemistry and understanding between Moir and Virtue are what makes their performances so exceptional and distinctive. They are extraordinary storytellers as they manage to captivate their audience with their movement, expressions, and energy. They are without any doubt the greatest ice dance team.

They are expected to announce retirement after their glorious 2018 Olympics and when they do it will be a sad day for ice dancing but it will be the perfect fairytale ending for Virtue and Moir.
