The Entertainment Industry In 2020

by | Apr 6, 2020 | Entertainment Feature

The entertainment industry is all about having fun, watching movies, playing games. However, this year, the fun part is a little bit different. This year will show us that the entertainment industry can very well continue to exist completely digital. While many physical things will change, the virtual places will have their conditions changed or even improved.

It’s really important to have a good plan for these periods or to have members on your team that can adapt to some different situations really fast. Let’s see how the distinctive industries have adopted to these 2020’s changes:

Movies

The year of 2020 will look just like the Youtube videos where people will see most of the movies online. For example, the newest James Bond movie was planned to be premiered on 31 March at the Royal Albert Hall in London. However this year, Daniel Craig’s final appearance as the British secret service agent had been postponed to 12 November in the UK, and  25 November in the US. And the same thing happened with other movies like Wonder Woman 1984, Black Widow, Mulan, etc.

Besides, Netflix came in 2019, with The Irishman movie, where it had its premier online. Many streaming movie services will continue on the Netflix path regarding movies. Streaming services like the new Apple TV, Disney Now and Amazon Prime Video have long been before the cinemas with their TV Series, making them completely digital. We barely see them going on our TVs.

In addition, many delayed movies are comic-related movies, so expect that all the cinemas will be stormed by geeks. Therefore, if you want to ensure your seat at the back in the middle watch the news carefully and be the first one who reserves his place. And for the cinemas, I believe it will be just as challenging to satisfy the rising traffic.

Music festivals/Concerts

It’s useless to talk about the new music itself because everyone can listen to them in their home. But music festivals are a bit trickier than that. It takes a lot of planning to create such an event. They have to ensure the security, the food stands, the legal background, etc. But the most important thing is to reserve the artists.

In most situations, these well-known artists can always cancel their concerts and they will leave all the fans disappointed and the organizers will lose their credibility. In addition, it is already known that artists do these cancelations for various reasons. However, this year, they will try their concerts by streaming them where everyone can listen to their favourite songs and watch their favourite artist sing and talk.

Sports

As for sports events, the situation is also a bit different. The events that we see are just a small percent of the whole picture. However, that isn’t the problem. The real difficulty is for the teams to prepare. This takes place at least a few months before the competition, and if the organisation isn’t fully prepared, their performance would be really unenjoyable.

It will be a little bit trickier for these large events to prepare themselves to go digital. The only sports part that is doing very well on the virtual side are the eSports, but even though eSports is about video games, the real sport is the mind of the participants.

But let’s talk about the good part as well, the WWE Wrestlemania 2020 event is still on. The only difference is that you won’t be able to watch it from the arena. The show will be live streamed, completely online. And this might be one of the first sports events that came with a very good idea and is able to go digital. The year of 2020 really does bring good opportunities.

Casinos

Another important industry that has to go virtual is the casino industry. Even if there are land-based casinos, this year will show that the iGaming industry can continue their work in the online environment. However, they still have their challenges. With all this immense traffic from nowhere, they have to hire new developers to work on their online casino platforms. All the games have to be stable and enjoyable at the same time, and that requires a lot of work.

Video Games

Thankfully this industry isn’t affected that much, and I didn’t say “at all” for a reason. You will find out soon why. Due to the shipment companies, everyone can get their fresh new 2020 video games. The biggest video games that are released this year are Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, Dying Light 2, Watch Dogs Legion. However, nowadays video games don’t come out physical, but digital. The year of 2020 will be a year that will give the opportunity to realise that we can do so many amazing things digitally. And physical things will surely be something of history.

There are ways of course, to do the live streams, and use the digital platforms like Steam, GoG, Uplay and others to see and watch what games are coming. At the same time, it is kind of weird to see that some still rely on the physical places, while many video games companies are already starting to release and present their games in the virtual world. Ubisoft, for example, has announced it’s latest expansion pack for Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Warlords of New York, where they actually made a presentation of the whole game by streaming it.
