Legal Pathways for Refugees from Ukraine

- Travel with a parent or guardian if they are under the age of 18
How to Apply for Uniting for Ukraine
The application process for Uniting for Ukraine is not legally initiated by the refugee. Instead, their financial supporter will start the first steps by filing Form I-134A and providing the refugee’s contact information. The refugee cannot currently be in the United States and will need to withdraw any previous applications such as Form I-131.
Once the government reviews the form from the financial supporter, they will contact the refugee for further information on things like vaccination records and family relationships. After this information is confirmed, the Ukrainians will then receive an authorization for travel form that gives them 90 days to enter the United States.
Other Options for Ukrainian Refugees
Keep in mind that Uniting for Ukraine is simply the system for dealing with refugees who cannot otherwise enter the United States legally. This new process does not shut down other potential avenues for entering the nation and becoming a citizen. Eligible Ukrainians can choose to skip the Uniting for Ukraine process and enter the United States to reunite with a parent, start a job with the appropriate work visa, or marry a United States citizen. They may also have other options like applying for Temporary Protected Status or submitting an application for asylum.
