The International Tourism Trade Fair, hosted by IFEMA MADRID from January 22-26, will feature the significant segment FITUR WOMAN. This initiative, celebrating its fifth year with support from Extremadura under the theme “Pride of Belonging,” aims to showcase the emotional ties people have with tourist destinations and their influence on the social prosperity and sustainable growth of various regions and communities.
FITUR WOMAN, a collaboration between FITUR and Women Leading Tourism (WLT), will focus on women’s leadership within tourism. The event will gather influential figures from both corporate and governmental sectors to discuss how female leadership in these domains can significantly enhance the sense of pride in the tourism sector.
Maribel Rodríguez, president of Women Leading Tourism, stresses that “It’s time to intelligently manage, with the participation of all actors, safeguarding the sense of belonging of the resident population in tourist areas. We must avoid depersonalisation; authenticity is not only a key differentiating value for destinations, but also an opportunity for regions seeking to position themselves in the global market in a sustainable and competitive way. Promoting tourism in this way not only attracts visitors, but also generates a local sense of pride, preserves heritage and ensures the well-being of future generations.
This year, Extremadura is highlighted at FITUR WOMAN as a prime example of incorporating female leadership in fostering a tourism industry that not only maintains local heritage but also creates substantial opportunities. Recognized for its commitment to sustainability, Extremadura promotes a tourism model that benefits the social fabric, environment, and economy alike, positioning FITUR WOMAN as a catalyst for recognizing and empowering women as vital agents of change in tourism.
