Yacht Club de Monaco Redefines Prestige and Excellence at the Grand YCM Awards Event
Friday, December 20, 2024
As the year draws to a close, the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) celebrated its annual tradition with the YCM Awards on Wednesday evening. The prestigious event, held under the presidency of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, featured the highly coveted UBS Trophy and brought together the Club’s extensive family of members and supporters. This yearly gathering highlights exceptional sporting achievements and welcomes new members to the YCM community.
During his address, Prince Albert II emphasized the dual role of the Yacht Club de Monaco. It serves as an exclusive haven for its 2,500 members, representing 81 nationalities, while also fulfilling a public service mission. The Sovereign underlined Monaco’s position as a premier yachting destination, blending innovation with sustainability. These core principles are embodied in the “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting” initiative, which cements the Club’s role in ocean conservation and maritime innovation.
The YCM continues to spearhead impactful projects, including the 12th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge scheduled for July 1-5, 2025. This event will spotlight advancements in artificial intelligence within the maritime sector. Additionally, the SEA Index, an environmental benchmark for yachts over 24 meters, has expanded its reach to 15 harbors and marinas across the Mediterranean and the Seychelles. The index now incorporates fuel cell technology and addresses noise pollution, showcasing a commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.
The evening also celebrated the exceptional achievements of YCM’s racing members, who have excelled on international waters. Notably, two members made history by reaching the finals of the America’s Cup. Ineos Britannia, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, claimed victory in the Louis Vuitton Cup, while Emirates Team New Zealand, backed by Matteo de Nora, secured their third consecutive win in the America’s Cup final.
This prestigious event once again highlighted the Yacht Club de Monaco’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and environmental stewardship in the world of yachting.
“2024 was a very good year for us sport wise. It was very special for the America’s Cup, we are very proud of the results”, added YCM General Secretary, Bernard D’Alessandri.
