This year, SAS secured two highly coveted accolades: Best Scaled Cargo Solution and Best Scaled FlightOps Solution, cementing its position as a leader in sustainable aviation innovation.
A First-Time Entry with Historic Significance
Making its debut at TAC, SAS commemorated its participation with a celebration flight from Copenhagen to Los Angeles. This milestone event coincided with the 70th anniversary of SAS’s groundbreaking achievement as the first airline to traverse the North Pole, a feat that revolutionized transatlantic travel by significantly reducing flight time, fuel consumption, and emissions.

TAC, an annual event by SkyTeam, gathers member airlines to spotlight operational excellence, sustainability, and innovation. In 2024, 33 showcase flights and 327 cutting-edge solutions were evaluated on key sustainability metrics, including CO₂ reduction, waste minimization, ground handling efficiency, and transformative innovations aimed at reshaping the future of aviation.

SAS’s Copenhagen-to-Los Angeles flight achieved a remarkable 20% reduction in CO₂ emissions per passenger, setting a new benchmark for sustainable air travel. This success highlighted the airline’s expertise in strategic route optimization and meticulous operational planning, underscoring its commitment to reducing aviation’s environmental impact.
Additionally, SAS received special recognition from SkyTeam for operating the flight with the lowest CO₂ emissions, a testament to its unwavering focus on sustainability and operational efficiency.
