Kota Kinabalu, Sabah will host ASEAN Travel Exchange 2025 this June, uniting travel leaders to showcase South-east Asia’s tourism, culture, and regional connectivity.

A groundbreaking private sector-led B2B travel fair dedicated to the South-east Asian market is set to launch this June in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The ASEAN Travel Exchange (ATE) 2025, a pioneering initiative, is spearheaded by prominent travel bodies, including the ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA), Federation of ASEAN Travel Associations (FATA), Malaysia Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA), and AirAsia Group.

Taking place over three days from June 19, ATE 2025 combines a dynamic conference and a comprehensive travel exchange. The event enjoys strong backing from Sabah’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Environment.

The showcase will spotlight Sabah’s vibrant culture, heritage, and diverse tourism assets, positioning it as a premier destination for both business events and leisure travel.

FATA President Tan Kok Liang underscored the strategic significance of ATE 2025, aligning with the upcoming implementation of ASEAN Protocol 5 on Own Stopover Rights. This protocol, anticipated to roll out this year, will allow South-east Asian airlines to operate stopovers at ASEAN airports en route to destinations within the region, paving the way for enhanced intra-regional travel and connectivity.

Tan called upon industry stakeholders to forge cross-border collaborations, fostering creative and competitive travel solutions to cater to the expected surge in travelers.

ATE 2025 will welcome 230 hosted buyers from key markets across South-east Asia, China, and India, signaling the region’s dedication to engaging with critical international markets. Additionally, 100 sellers representing ASEAN nations—including hoteliers, tour operators, product owners, and travel tech providers—will showcase their offerings at the event.

With its annual format and a rotating host city approach, ATE aims to sustain meaningful engagement while emphasizing ASEAN’s unity and commitment to fostering tourism and economic growth across the region.
