Malaysia Unveils Cultural Treasures and Exclusive Travel Deals at Inaugural Tourism Showcase in Guangzhou to Attract Chinese Travelers Ahead of VM2026
Tourism Malaysia has launched its first-ever consumer event in Guangzhou, spotlighting the country’s vibrant cultural heritage, enticing travel packages, and exciting Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) promotions to captivate Chinese tourists and boost inbound tourism.
On 8 March 2025, Tourism Malaysia officially kicked off a vibrant three-day promotional event at TeeMall, Guangzhou, led by Mr. Samuel Lee, Deputy Director General (Promotion II) of Tourism Malaysia, alongside Ms. Suraya Ahmad Pauzi, Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, and Dato’ Dr. Angie Ng, President of the Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association (MICA). The event, organized in partnership with MICA, seeks to create a deeper connection with Chinese travelers by bringing Malaysian experiences directly to the heart of one of China’s most dynamic cities.
TeeMall, known for its bustling foot traffic, served as the perfect venue to amplify Malaysia’s tourism appeal and engage with thousands of potential visitors. The promotional campaign spotlighted the country’s rich cultural offerings—such as traditional crafts like labu sayong and batik painting—while showcasing exclusive travel packages curated for the Chinese market.
Designed to build momentum ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), the event aims to strengthen Malaysia’s image as a safe, exciting, and culturally immersive destination. It also reinforces strategic alliances with Guangzhou’s travel and tourism stakeholders to foster long-term partnerships.
In 2024, Malaysia recorded an impressive 3,725,894 arrivals from China—reflecting a significant 130.9% growth compared to the previous year. This upward trajectory is expected to continue, thanks to Malaysia’s visa-free entry policy for Chinese citizens extended until December 2026, and enhanced air connectivity with 515 weekly flights between both nations. These efforts are poised to deepen bilateral ties and generate mutual tourism and economic gains.
