Penang’s thriving Business Events sector reached a significant milestone as the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) officially launched the Business Events Penang 2024 Annual Review at the Iconic Marjorie Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. This prestigious event brought together key industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Penang’s Business Events sector over the past year.
Unprecedented Growth in Business Events for 2024
The Business Events Penang 2024 Annual Review highlights a year of exceptional progress and record-breaking figures, reinforcing Penang’s reputation as a leading hub for Business Events. The latest statistics showcase a remarkable surge in the number of events hosted, delegate attendance, and overall economic impact.
In 2024, Penang successfully hosted an astonishing 2,059 Business Events, marking a substantial 240.9% increase compared to the previous year. This surge reflects the state’s strong appeal among international and domestic event organizers and its ability to accommodate a diverse range of conferences, exhibitions, incentive programs, and corporate meetings.
Moreover, these events collectively welcomed an impressive 305,259 delegates, representing a significant 87.3% growth from the previous year. This influx of visitors has not only contributed to the vibrancy of the local Business Events sector but has also provided substantial economic benefits to Penang’s hospitality, retail, and tourism industries.
The total number of room nights generated from these events reached 558,543, reflecting a steady 3.6% rise. This increase highlights the growing demand for world-class accommodations and venues in Penang, further emphasizing the state’s attractiveness as a Business Events destination.
Most notably, the Estimated Economic Impact (EEI) of Business Events in Penang skyrocketed to RM1.29 billion, marking a remarkable 24.8% increase from 2023. This achievement underscores the crucial role that Business Events play in driving Penang’s economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and fostering long-term investments in the state’s tourism and events infrastructure.
