Cyclists faced ever-changing weather forecasts, but pedaled on in the knowledge that their support was being direct to over 48 local charities throughout the region, including Washington, Allegheny, Fayette, and Westmoreland counties.Promoted by the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, it has become a popular tradition. What began as a modest group of motorcyclists with a charitable mission has grown into one of the area’s largest charity motorcycle events. The occasion is a timely reminder that not only do community events like this make a difference to the charitable organisations they support, but local tourism and businesses benefit too!The Blue Ride is important to Washington County, and only by expanding the tourism component of this event will people who are riding bikes (or cheering on family) also decide that they need to bid on a lot at an auction while they are in town. “Since last year, the ride has raised over $800,000 for charity and gone toward many causes and nonprofits throughout the region,” said event chairman Dave Richards. “Since our ride last year, we have given back more than $800,000 to charity,” Richards said, which spoke volumes of the ride.
