From 8 to 13 August there will be cultural performances, live music, theatrical shows, star-gazing and storytelling sessions, all bringing alive the country’s ancient history in a manner only the transformational August moon can.A National Festival of the Arts and CultureAdvertisement The Dionysian nights of the August Full Moon are a legacy event, now in their 25th year. Presented by the Ministry of Culture, this little initiative has grown into an annual cultural extravaganza that defies traditional local experience expectations. The 2025 event will be bigger than ever: 114 monuments, archaeological sites and museums will take part in the historic event. Of those, 71 sites will have programming that ranges from concerts to theatrical performances to storytelling sessions, and 43 will offer free access to the public to enter these historic spaces under the tranquil glow of a full moon. Planned in alliance with municipalities from the different regions and cultural societies, the events will be adapted to preserve the authentic culture and tradition from each region.The magical event that merges the enchantment of ancient ruins, the seductive appeal of the celestial dome and of course, Greece’s rich culture, is expected to attract thousands of visitors from all over the globe. In Athens, there will also be a night-time concert at the Acropolis Museum, featuring the Hellenic Air Force Band playing Greek songs about the moon, as well as other traditional tunes.
