The mission of OCEANOS, which stands for Ocean Community Engagement and Awareness using NASA Earth Observations and Science, is to bring oceanography and STEM opportunities to the Spanish-speaking community. During the internship, the high school and undergraduate students perform two weeks of field work in La Parguera and Culebra, Puerto Rico. During that time students build their own low-cost sensors, learn about coral reef ecosystems and participate in reef restoration, sample phytoplankton, visit a bioluminescent bay, and evaluate samples in a lab.
