The New Year’s Eve celebration, which drew nearly 130,000 visitors, was a striking departure from conventional countdown events, with the district’s 520,000 square meters of space serving as an open-air canvas for creativity.The event, titled “Starts New Year with Art: 2026 New Year’s Eve Countdown at 798”, unfolded in an eclectic mix of installations, performances, and interactive experiences. Unlike the traditional single countdown clock, this year’s celebration featured six synchronized countdown sites, scattered across the district, offering visitors multiple opportunities to witness the countdown in unique settings.Advertisement Art and Technology Converge in the Heart of BeijingOne of the most remarkable highlights was the transformation of 798’s iconic No. 6 chimney. The industrial landmark became a living canvas through Woven Light Chronicles, a captivating digital art installation by Wang Zhigang and his team. The piece turned the towering structure into a dynamic vertical display of light, reflecting the intersection of Beijing’s industrial heritage with cutting-edge technology.Not far from this spectacle, the 79 Tank, a massive oil tank in the district, hosted Endless Circle, a time-based light installation. This immersive experience projected ethereal light patterns onto the tank’s concrete and steel surfaces, symbolising the flow of time.
