Magnetic Fields in the Interstellar Medium: Toward the PRIMA Era
Speaker
Susan Clark (Stanford University)
Abstract
Far-infrared polarimetry probes the plane-of-sky magnetic field orientation in the dusty interstellar medium. The interstellar magnetic field affects a diverse range of physics within galaxies, from cosmic ray propagation to star formation, but many questions about Galactic magnetic fields remain open. I will discuss some recent progress and remaining puzzles in our understanding of interstellar magnetic fields. I will highlight a new compilation of SOFIA/HAWC+ data toward star-forming regions that the community can use to interrogate some of these questions on the road to PRIMA.
