About the Instructor:

Shaheen J Rahman is an artist and cultural educator specializing in Ebru (Turkish paper marbling), an ancient Silk Road art form deeply rooted in Islamic artistic tradition. Drawing from her heritage and faith, she approaches Ebru as both a creative and spiritual practice — one that reflects mindfulness, intention, and surrender. Through live demonstrations and hands-on workshops, Shaheen engages diverse communities, creating welcoming spaces for dialogue, learning, and artistic exploration. She is committed to using art as a bridge to foster cultural appreciation, inclusivity, and understanding.  Shaheen serves as President of the Islamic Arts Society and contributes to Houston’s cultural landscape as a Mayoral appointee to the Board of Directors of the Houston Arts Alliance and as a member of the Advisory Council of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Across her artistic and civic leadership, her mission remains rooted in unity and the transformative power of art.
