Hospitality company Treebo and global hotel group Accor have ended negotiations on a master licensee partnership that was intended to expand Accor’s branded hotel presence across India. The partnership, which was publicly announced in April 2025, aimed to accelerate Treebo’s entry into larger-format branded hotel operations while supporting Accor’s expansion objectives in the Indian market.
Accor had established an ambitious growth target of 300 hotels across India by 2030, a significant increase from the 71 properties the company operated at the time the partnership was announced. The Treebo arrangement was designed as a critical component of this expansion strategy, particularly for penetrating smaller urban markets in tier-two and tier-three cities where Treebo held existing market presence.
According to Treebo Co-Founder and CEO Sidharth Gupta, the two organizations were unable to reach agreement on definitive terms required to finalize the arrangement. He indicated that after careful consideration, both parties determined it was in their mutual interest to discontinue partnership discussions and instead focus on independent growth strategies. Gupta characterized the outcome as an unfortunate development while acknowledging that such outcomes occasionally occur in complex partnership negotiations between major industry players.
The termination removes a key distribution mechanism for Accor’s Ibis and Mercure branded properties in India, though the company’s broader expansion plans remain in effect through other potential channels and initiatives.
