Twenty of the EU’s 27 member states have already fulfilled their 2027 targets for the Comprehensive network, which covers regional motorways and primary roads, reaching compliance nearly a year and a half ahead of schedule.

Geographic disparities persist, with gaps primarily concentrated in Eastern European nations and Spain. However, these regions simultaneously demonstrate the most rapid expansion rates for ultra-fast charging networks. The analysis suggests that strategic placement of approximately 70 additional stations could substantially improve EU-wide compliance, requiring 22 installations in Spain, 11 in Poland, and 7 in Romania.

Industry analysts note that while infrastructure deployment has successfully supported the growth in electric vehicle sales during 2025 and 2026, ongoing challenges remain regarding user experience and cost transparency that may affect broader adoption rates.
