The UK simultaneously confirmed its participation in the European Union’s €90 billion support loan designated for Ukraine, enabling British defense firms to supply weapons funded through the program. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer characterized the decision as essential for supporting Ukraine’s defense needs while benefiting UK companies and employment. The arrangement specifies that Britain will contribute costs proportional to contracts awarded to British enterprises. This development represents continued cooperation between Britain and the EU following the nation’s departure from the bloc in 2020.
During the Paris meeting, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that the Multinational Force for Ukraine will conduct exercises in neighboring countries during the coming months to test deployment readiness in the event of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. Zelenskyy sought to accelerate European cooperation on air defense capabilities ahead of the winter season, when Russian military operations typically intensify against Ukrainian infrastructure. The EU began dispersing the two-year loan in the previous month, with an initial €6 billion designated for expanding drone production for Ukrainian forces.
Macron cautioned against fragmented national defense approaches, urging European unity in military development despite increasing defense expenditures and pressure from the United States to expand military budgets.
