China has achieved significant progress in renewable capacity deployment, becoming the world’s largest market for wind and solar installations. However, China simultaneously remains the globe’s largest coal consumer and continues constructing new coal-fired power plants. The European Union presents a contrasting approach, with non-hydrocarbon sources generating 48% of electricity last year compared to 29% from coal and gas plants, representing a more pronounced shift away from fossil fuels.
