This limitation has created opportunities for companies developing the remaining components of a fully integrated North American rare earth supply chain. REalloys has assembled a portfolio of supply agreements spanning feedstock sourcing, separation, metallization and permanent magnet manufacturing. The company controls the Hoidas Lake heavy rare earth mine in Canada and holds supply contracts for separated heavy rare earth oxides, including arrangements with international projects and foreign governments.

Federal defense agencies have recognized REalloys’ strategic positioning. In March, the Defense Logistics Agency awarded the company a contract valued up to $1.7 million to design a facility producing samarium and gadolinium metals for defense applications. In May, the Department of Defense issued a memorandum identifying domestic heavy rare earth production as an urgent priority ahead of a January 1, 2027 deadline restricting Chinese-origin rare earth magnets in defense procurement.

In early July, the U.S. Army selected REalloys for exclusive negotiations to develop heavy rare earth processing facilities at the Tooele Army Depot in Utah. Under the proposed arrangement, REalloys would finance, construct and operate a commercial processing complex on Army land, with initial development targeted for 2027 and operational capability expected no later than 2028. The facility would process materials for multiple federal agencies and serve both government and commercial customers.

The buildout reflects recognition that metallization capabilities represent the critical missing component in domestic rare earth supply chains. China has maintained global advantage through dominance of intermediate processing steps that convert raw concentrates into usable metals and alloys. REalloys secured approximately $100 million in institutional funding to accelerate construction, positioning the company to supply permanent magnet manufacturers across defense, aerospace, electric vehicle and technology sectors.
