The indie comedy ‘Pass the Salt’ has expanded its ensemble cast with the addition of three performers as production preparations advance in Vancouver. The project will be developed simultaneously as a feature film for Hollywood Suite and a six-part television series for OUTtv.
Mosleh, who directs and stars in the production, plays the lead character Parmiss Mansour, a sheltered graduate student navigating family expectations and personal identity. Wear takes on the role of Nava, Mansour’s love interest, while Fox and Vass round out the principal cast as characters Alex and Dickie respectively. The ensemble also includes Valeh Ashraf, Moheb Jindran, Babak Haleky, Peri Allen, Craig March, Jen Griffin, Donia Kash, Hani Mefti and Shayan Bayat.
According to Mosleh, the new cast members demonstrated strong chemistry with the existing ensemble, which he cited as essential to the project’s appeal. Philip Webb, COO of OUTtv, characterized the series as offering a distinctive perspective within the romance genre through its intersectional approach and creative direction.
The production is backed by PK Studio Productions and features executive producers including Mosleh alongside Alexandre Coscas, Michael Goldstein, Aidan Heatley, Ronny Kurland, Connor Slatkoff Sharpe and Anthony Q. Farrell. The Bell Fund, Canada Media Fund and Creative B.C. are providing development and production financing. The project follows a trend of queer-focused content originating from Canadian producers, including previous series such as ‘Heated Rivalry,’ ‘Sort Of’ and ‘Schitt’s Creek.’
