Castlemont, a son of New Bay purchased for 375,000 guineas as a yearling, is set to debut for trainer Charlie Appleby and owner Godolphin at Windsor. The colt represents considerable promise given his sibling Bay Bridge’s accomplishments, which included a peak rating of 122 and a victory over the noted horse Baaeed in 2022. Castlemont has already been gelded and will race in the Godolphin blue silks.
Also making his debut is Treble Bass, a son of Sea The Stars who is a half-brother to Lava Stream. This gelded colt will be ridden by Ray Dawson in the same colors as Castlemont. Among horses with prior racing experience in the field, Lord d’Or holds the strongest form credentials after finishing second to Portcullis at York in May. Cool Girl, a Pinatubo filly purchased for €100,000 by Amo Racing, is expected to attract attention from bettors and will be partnered with jockey David Egan under trainer Charlie Johnston.
Elsewhere on the racing calendar, Saint Martin and Lady Mara are scheduled to compete in the Listed Prix Frédéric de Lagrange at Vichy. Saint Martin arrives with three victories from seven starts, all achieved during the current year, including a Listed success in the Prix Francois. Lady Mara, representing trainer Graffard, recently finished fourth in the Group 2 Premio Oaks d’Italia Tattersalls at San Siro and will be ridden by Mickael Barzalona. Mazzala, an unbeaten gelding trained by Yann Barberot, represents another significant contender after winning at Saint-Cloud and Lyon under jockey Maxime Guyon.
Sunshine Star, a filly trained by the Gosdens for Lady Bamford, is set to return to competition. The three-year-old, who is a half-sister to Oaks winner Soul Sister, was withdrawn from the Ribblesdale, suggesting high regard from her connections. She won impressively at Lingfield in early June following a narrow defeat in the Musidora. Capichera, having scored at Pontefract in recent weeks, is considered the nearest challenger in her race.
