Uber has announced an agreement to acquire Delivery Hero, a Berlin-based food delivery platform, in a transaction valued at $14.8 billion. The acquisition price of €41.50 per share reflects Uber’s previous equity stakes in the company, with the net payment amounting to $13.7 billion after accounting for earlier investments, including a share purchase completed in May.
The combined entity will merge Uber Eats with Delivery Hero’s existing portfolio of regional brands operating across 99 countries. These include foodpanda in Asia, PedidosYa in Latin America, and talabat in the Middle East. The combined platforms processed $236 billion in orders during 2025. However, Uber will not directly acquire Delivery Hero’s operations in 14 markets where it already maintains significant market positions. Instead, private equity firm SSW Partners will purchase these assets, including the Glovo application, foodora, and Yemeksepeti, for $1.6 billion. This arrangement is intended to address competition concerns from regulatory authorities.
The food delivery sector has experienced substantial growth and consolidation following the pandemic period. Recent major transactions in the industry include DoorDash’s acquisition of Deliveroo and Prosus’s purchase of JustEat Takeaway. Delivery Hero’s board has unanimously endorsed the transaction and recommended it to shareholders. Prosus, which owns 17 percent of Delivery Hero, has committed to selling its stake to Uber.
Uber intends to maintain Delivery Hero’s headquarters in Berlin and preserve its workforce through at least 2029. The company has pledged to invest €2 billion in Germany over the subsequent five years. Upon completion, Uber expects to operate taxi and food delivery services across 58 markets, compared to its current 34. The transaction is anticipated to close in the second half of 2027. Delivery Hero was founded in 2011 and listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2017.
