The UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane were curtailed by severe weather conditions that made continued competition unsafe. Strong winds delayed the start of racing, and officials ultimately decided to cancel the event and declare results based on the first round held the previous day, consistent with UCI regulations that specify results from the last completed round become the final standings.
Britain’s Beth Shriever captured the women’s elite title after posting the fastest lap time in the earlier round. The 27-year-old’s victory marked a historic achievement, making her the first BMX racer to win four elite world titles. Shriever’s previous world championships came in 2021, 2023, and 2025, in addition to her Olympic gold medal from Tokyo 2020. She acknowledged mixed feelings about the circumstances of her victory, noting that while she was pleased to take the title, competitors had hoped to race properly on the day in question.
In the men’s event, fellow British rider Ross Cullen secured the silver medal by posting the second-fastest lap time. Australia’s Jesse Asmus set the fastest lap in the men’s competition and took the gold medal. The decision to cancel the championship was made jointly with support from the UCI Athletes’ Commission representative, National Federation Team Managers, and the Local Organising Committee, who determined conditions posed too great a safety risk.
In junior competition, Freia Challis of Britain won the women’s junior title, edging out compatriot Elsa Rendall Todd for the gold medal.
