The Giornate Degli Autori section of the Venice Film Festival, commonly known as Venice Days, has announced its forthcoming program centered on works by and about women. The selection comprises 25 world premieres across various categories, of which 14 are directed by women.

Horvát’s previous work “Preparations to Be Together for an Unknown Period of Time” premiered at Venice and Toronto earlier this decade.
The competition program includes 10 titles to be evaluated by an all-female jury chaired by Spanish director Carla Simón, known for films including “Alcarràs” and “Romeria.” Other jury members include Hania Mroue, who founded and directs Beirut’s Metropolis Cinema, and Italian director and producer Sara Fgaier. Competition entries include Kuba Dorabialski’s “Agata the Writer,” featuring Mia Wasikowska as a Polish-Australian novelist; Nicola Sorcinelli’s “Balcanica,” about Afghan musicians traveling the Balkan route; and Robert Guédiguian’s “A Woman Today,” centered on a finance executive whose life changes after a workplace assault.
Additional programming includes documentaries and special events such as Francesca Archibugi’s documentary about radical feminist art critic Carla Lonzi, and Léa Domenach’s closing film “A Man’s Skin,” a musical comedy set during the Italian Renaissance and reuniting the director with Catherine Deneuve. Shorts commissioned through Prada’s Miu Miu Women’s Tales initiative, directed by filmmakers including Mona Fastvold and Claire Denis, will also screen.
The festival edition runs Sept. 2-12 and is dedicated to the memory of Giorgio Gosetti, the Italian film critic who established Venice Days in 2004 and died in March at age 70. The section operates as an independently-run program alongside the official Venice Film Festival selection.
