Alba Rohrwacher-Starrer ‘A Common Story’ Gets Boarded by True Colours Ahead of its Venice and Toronto Premieres (EXCLUSIVE)

Italian sales company True Colours has secured international distribution rights outside Italy for “A Common Story,” a marriage drama from first-time feature director Anna Foglietta. The film will premiere in September at the Venice International Film Festival’s Horizons section, followed by a North American debut in Toronto’s Discovery section.

The drama centers on a couple, Erika and Mauro, whose quiet countryside existence is disrupted when their daughter departs for university overseas. The departure creates an emotional void that destabilizes the foundation of their relationship, prompting both partners to confront themselves and each other while grappling with whether their marriage can endure and evolve.

Foglietta, an actress-to-director transition, is recognized internationally for her performance in the Italian hit “Perfect Strangers,” which earned her a David di Donatello nomination. She most recently served as official host of the Venice International Film Festival. The production brings together Italian production entities HT Film, Indigo Film, Tenderstories, and Blu One Lab, with financing from RAI Cinema and HBO Max. Domestic Italian distribution will be handled by BIM Distribuzione.

Foglietta’s directorial debut is among several titles on True Colours’ current slate. Other projects include Dario Albertini’s family drama “Armony” and Susanna Nicchiarelli’s “Happy Days,” both launching from international festivals, alongside a documentary examining prominent filmmakers.
