Amazon Prime Video has secured distribution rights for an upcoming Baywatch reboot across numerous international markets. As part of the arrangement, Amazon will also obtain licensing rights to the complete Baywatch back catalogue. The reboot features Stephen Amell in the lead role alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader. Matt Nix, known for his work on Burn Notice and The Gifted, serves as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz, with McG also directing the series premiere.
Production companies Fremantle and Fox Entertainment are behind the project. The first season will consist of 12 episodes, debuting on Fox in January 2027 before becoming available on Prime Video later in the year. Fox Entertainment Global holds domestic distribution rights within the United States, while Fremantle manages international sales and brokered the Amazon agreement.
The original Baywatch ran for one season on NBC before being canceled, but achieved significant success through syndication worldwide. At its height, the series became the most-watched program globally, broadcasting in over 200 countries and reaching more than a billion weekly viewers. The show contributed to launching several acting careers over its run.
