The device works by narrowing a vein at the back of the heart to redirect blood flow to areas of heart muscle receiving insufficient oxygen. A large-scale study examining 491 patients with refractory angina, conducted between 2014 and 2024 across 19 hospitals in England and Scotland, found that 75% of patients experienced significant reductions in chest pain within six months of implantation. The study included 474 patients who received the implant, with most returning home the same day or the day after the procedure. Serious complications were rare according to the research findings.
