Research published earlier indicates that marine heatwaves correlate with more intense rainfall over adjacent coastal lands, with extreme downpours influenced by strong heatwaves showing rainfall rates 20 to 30 percent higher than typical.

Europe currently experiences the fastest warming rate among continents and has faced multiple catastrophic weather events exacerbated by climate change. Scientists not involved in the new analysis emphasized that current European heat extremes should not be considered unexpected given established climate patterns, and that the impact of changing seas on daily life warrants greater recognition. Meanwhile, observers have raised concerns about policy contradictions, noting tensions between scientific acknowledgment of climate impacts and continued expansion of fossil fuel infrastructure across the continent.
