CGI Animated Movie ‘Juul,’ Featuring Lenny Henry, Joins Studio 100 Film’s Toronto Sales Slate (EXCLUSIVE)

Studio 100 Film has added the computer-generated animated feature “Juul” to its slate of international projects, with plans to present the film to distributors and buyers attending the Toronto Film Festival.

The English-language production features actor Lenny Henry in its voice cast and includes an original musical score composed by Michael League and Bob Lanzetti of the Grammy Award-winning group Snarky Puppy. The film is directed by Tom Van Gestel based on a screenplay by An De Gruyter. Currently in production, the project is targeted for completion in Q4 2026.

The narrative is set during the 1950s and centers on a 17-year-old circus acrobat named Juul. Following a devastating accident that leaves the protagonist comatose and pronounced brain-dead, her father—a magician facing financial hardship—removes her body from medical care and incorporates her into circus performances as a “living puppet” designed to attract audiences and save the failing entertainment venue. Despite her physical incapacity, Juul maintains consciousness throughout this ordeal, retaining awareness while unable to control her own body. As her internal resistance intensifies, her physical form undergoes a metamorphosis into porcelain material, which serves as a manifestation of her defiance and her determination to reclaim agency over her identity.

The production involves multiple European partners, including Fabrique Fantastique of Belgium, M.A.R.K.13 of Germany, Keplerfilm of The Netherlands, Mr Miyagi of Spain, and Avalon Films of Ireland. Studio 100 Film maintains worldwide sales rights with exceptions for Belgium, Germany, Spain, and The Netherlands.
