The survey revealed that 84% of parents and educators believe data literacy should be woven across multiple disciplines rather than confined to mathematics or computer science courses. Amber Zavicar, a K-12 math specialist in Michigan, noted that data science represents a contemporary approach to mathematics that connects abstract concepts to real-world applications and contemporary issues.

Proponents argue that integrating data literacy across the curriculum supports both critical thinking and civic engagement. The survey found 84% of respondents believe data skills are important for informed participation in democracy. Examples cited include using data analysis to examine environmental issues and understand the societal implications of emerging technologies.
