David F. Sandberg to Direct Horror Movie ‘Mommy’s Home’ for Lionsgate

Lionsgate has announced that David F. Sandberg will direct the upcoming psychological horror film “Mommy’s Home.” The project marks another genre entry for Sandberg, who has built a considerable reputation in horror filmmaking over recent years.

The screenplay comes from James Morosini, an actor who has also worked as a writer and director. According to the film’s official description, the narrative centers on a young father whose domestic life becomes increasingly chaotic and frightening after his cryogenically preserved mother is thawed and arrives to live with his family. Morosini previously wrote, directed and starred in the 2022 dark comedy “I Love My Dad,” making “Mommy’s Home” his second feature screenwriting credit.

Sandberg’s filmography includes the viral YouTube short that became the horror feature “Lights Out,” as well as the superhero film “Shazam!” and its 2023 sequel. His most recent directorial effort was the video game adaptation “Until Dawn” for Sony. Beyond “Mommy’s Home,” Sandberg has additional projects in development, including the sci-fi horror film “Below” for Netflix and Atomic Monster, and “A Little Slice of Hell” for Paramount.

Production on “Mommy’s Home” will involve a collaborative team that includes producers Craig Flores, Dawn Olmstead, and Anonymous Content. Sandberg and Lotta Losten are also producing through their company Mångata. The studio side is being managed by Scott O’Brien and Maria Ascanio at Lionsgate.
