She became the first woman to work in the New York Post’s sports department and later the first Black woman to write for a supermarket tabloid when she joined National Examiner’s “Eye on the Stars.” Before transitioning to journalism in 1985, when she joined the New York Post as an agate clerk in sports, Anthony worked as a publicist representing notable figures in boxing, including Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, Butch Lewis, Mike McCallum and Michael Spinks.

During her tenure at the New York Post, Anthony broke numerous high-profile celebrity stories, covering major events involving figures such as Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, Mike Tyson and Robin Givens. Beyond her newspaper work, she maintained a significant presence in broadcast media, appearing regularly on programs including “Inside Edition,” “The Insider” and “Entertainment Tonight.” She also contributed to coverage on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News Channel and Court TV, and co-hosted E! Network’s “The Gossip Show” for six seasons.

Anthony’s media involvement extended to television documentaries and streaming content, appearing in CNN’s “American Prince: JFK Jr.” as recently as 2025. She held editorial positions at Black Noir magazine and Black Elegance magazine and founded Dottie Media Group, through which she produced syndicated radio programs “Gossip on the Go With Flo” and “Flo Anthony’s Big Apple Buzz.”

Anthony was born March 4, 1952 in Ann Arbor, Michigan and graduated from Howard University. She is survived by her spouse, Michael Spinks, whom she married in January.
