Google Gemini is getting a dedicated student hub

Google is introducing a specialized student hub within its Gemini platform designed to support academic work during the back-to-school period. The hub serves as a centralized resource for organizing research through study notebooks, generating flashcards, completing practice quizzes, and managing academic tasks. The platform includes functionality to extract test dates and assignment deadlines from syllabi and automatically populate them in Google Calendar.

The company is also expanding Gemini Live with Deep Research capabilities, allowing users to request comprehensive research reports and discuss findings in real-time. Users can initiate research tasks and then close the application while processing continues in the background, with notifications alerting them when reports are complete. Additionally, Google Lens is receiving enhancements that enable students to photograph study materials or worksheets to receive concept explanations, clarifications on difficult topics, or feedback on errors.

To support student adoption, Google is offering complimentary access to Google AI Pro for eligible students in the US for one year. This subscription tier includes 5TB of cloud storage, Google Health Premium features, elevated usage allowances for Gemini, and access to Gemini integration across Google’s suite of applications. Students outside the US will have access to Google AI Plus, which provides a more limited feature set with 400GB of storage and reduced Gemini usage caps.
