No Other Land, which was also directed by Basel Adra and Hamdan Ballal alongside Abraham and Szor, was characterized as a significant work by film critics. Following its Oscar victory, Ballal faced an attack by Israeli settlers and was briefly detained. The Academy subsequently apologized for omitting Ballal and the film from an initial statement of support.
