Hyundai's new flagship vehicle is a large luxury Genesis EV

Hyundai Motor’s Genesis luxury brand has introduced the GV90, a new all-electric large SUV that represents the brand’s largest vehicle offering since its entry into the U.S. market approximately a decade ago. The vehicle will be available in configurations supporting up to seven passengers and marks the fourth electric vehicle offering from Genesis in the American market.

The GV90 is positioned to compete against several established competitors in the large SUV category, including the Cadillac Vistiq and Escalade IQ, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, and the Rivian R1S. The vehicle features a new design direction for the Genesis brand, characterized by a distinctive dual light design that converges at a central point. The concept version of this design was previously showcased by the brand in 2024.

The GV90 will be manufactured at a new Hyundai facility located in Ulsan, South Korea, with sales in the U.S. anticipated to commence early next year. The company has not yet disclosed pricing information, stating that details will be provided closer to the vehicle’s market launch. Genesis has not confirmed whether the GV90 will be offered in alternative powertrains, such as hybrid or traditional gasoline options, despite offering such configurations for other models including the GV70 SUV and G80 sedan.

The vehicle will be offered in two primary variants: the GV90 Neolun featuring coach doors that open from the vehicle’s center, and standard GV90 trims with conventional swing doors. A special First Edition will also be available with premium materials and distinctive badging. The coach door configuration, while uncommon in the automotive industry due to engineering complexity, provides enhanced entry and exit convenience. Genesis stated that the Neolun variant maintains safety standards despite the absence of a center pillar through specialized structural engineering.

The GV90 is equipped with a high-performance electric motor system capable of producing up to 490 kilowatts and 800 Newton-meters of torque, with an expected driving range of approximately 310 miles. Genesis reported that U.S. sales through the first half of this year increased roughly 5% compared to the prior year period, reaching 39,088 units, while the brand has achieved 22 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth.
