In a letter to HSI, Omar demanded answers about why the agent was positioned at the community center, how supervisors knew a congressional event was taking place there, and what actions they took based on that knowledge. The congresswoman characterized the incident as potentially reflecting broader concerns, stating: “At worst, it emphasizes many Americans’ growing concern that the Trump administration uses ICE to surveil political opponents and may interfere with our democracy.”
The Department of Homeland Security has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. The incident occurs amid ongoing controversy over ICE operations in Minnesota that have drawn protests this year.
