Further underlining the project’s defense focus, South Korea-headquartered Samsung SDI entered a conditional agreement with Forge Nano in June to purchase battery cells from the new facility. Samsung SDI will also distribute Forge Nano cells in the US as an authorized distributor. While Samsung SDI cells produced at the facility will serve automotive applications, they are designated for non-consumer markets. The partnership represents what CEO Paul Lichty characterized as a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a US battery technology company and a tier-1 battery manufacturer producing cells domestically.
