Notable recipients include SoLa Foundation’s Art in Action program, which will receive funding for a second consecutive year to provide workshops and mentorship to young artists in South Los Angeles. Protect the Sacred, focused on Indigenous youth programming, and Jon Boogz’s Stories Are Living Things initiative, an immersive performance and community exhibition project, also secured support. Individual filmmakers receiving awards include Leo Aguirre, whose debut feature Verano received backing through a Panavision equipment package, and co-directors Kasey Elise Walker and Andrea Ellsworth, inaugural recipients of a newly created fellowship.
The foundation also announced plans to host its inaugural public gathering on October 4 at L.A.’s Underground Museum to celebrate the organization’s work, honor its grantees and recognize the broader community engaged in the initiatives the fund supports. According to fund founders Michelle Satter and David Latt, Michael’s parents, the grant program embodies his belief that compassionate leadership manifests through concrete action supporting artists and community leaders creating tangible social change.
