
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Technology Innovation Partnership Project (ETIPP) is launching a new application cycle for communities interested in advancing their local energy goals with technical support from national laboratories and regional organizations. The program currently supports more than 90 projects across 81 communities nationwide that are working to address energy challenges including aging infrastructure and environmental vulnerabilities.
ETIPP provides two distinct service tracks tailored to communities at different stages of energy development. The strategic energy planning track assists communities in early-stage project development over a four to eight-month period, helping them establish clear objectives and actionable goals through high-level energy assessments and customized action plans. The technical deep-dive track supports communities with existing energy plans or well-defined projects, providing 12 to 24 months of intensive analysis and technical assistance from national laboratory experts.
Participating communities gain access to a suite of specialized tools and resources developed by ETIPP’s national laboratories, including energy assessment models, feasibility analyses, and technical guidance documents. The program also offers financial assistance, with planning-track participants eligible for up to $20,000 and technical-track participants eligible for up to $50,000 to support implementation of energy solutions.
Program management is led by the National Laboratory of the Rockies and funded through the DOE’s Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation. Communities interested in participating must contact their regional ETIPP partner to discuss eligibility before submitting applications. The application window closes at 11:59 p.m. MT on November 18, 2026. The program also maintains a knowledge-sharing network that makes resources and technical tools available to participating and non-participating communities.
