Netflix has commenced production on a follow-up to “Ad Vitam,” the French action thriller released in 2025, with the working title “Ad Vitam Eternam,” which translates from Latin as “to eternal life.”
Guillaume Canet is set to reprise his role as Franck Lazareff, a former operative with GIGN, France’s elite tactical police unit. According to the sequel’s premise, the character survives an assassination attempt following his prison release and seeks to identify those attempting to kill him. His search leads him to hide with his family in mountainous terrain. However, French intelligence agents locate him and propose a covert operation in exchange for providing the information Lazareff desires.
Ludovic Colbeau-Justin, known for “Néro: The Assassin,” will direct the sequel, taking over from Rodolphe Lauga, who helmed the original film. The screenplay was developed by Canet alongside French author Maxime Chattam, with additional work by David Corona, who contributed to the first movie’s script. The production will feature an ensemble cast including Stéphane Caillard, Nassim Lyes, Zita Hanrot, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Sophie Marceau and Mathieu Amalric.
Canet and Jean Cottin will produce the project through their company Cabanes Productions. Filming is scheduled to take place across various French locations, spanning Ile-de-France, Normandy, Savoie and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. The original “Ad Vitam” achieved commercial success on the platform, reaching number 9 on Netflix’s chart of most-watched non-English films. The sequel will join Netflix’s French programming roster alongside forthcoming releases including “Call My Agent: The Movie” and “Lupin” Season 4 later this year.
