Family Nursing and Home Care has announced the acquisition of equipment designed to enhance access to breastfeeding support across Jersey. The charity purchased 10 hospital-grade breast pumps along with single-use pump kits, as well as a specialist maternity recliner chair for a new breastfeeding and infant feeding clinic located at Pathways.
The initiative aligns with World Breastfeeding Week, observed from until 7 August. Debra Hennessy of Family Nursing and Home Care emphasized that the week represents an important opportunity to highlight breastfeeding and the necessity of ensuring families have adequate access to support services.
According to the charity, the new equipment and clinic are intended to address financial obstacles faced by families and enable mothers to continue breastfeeding longer if they choose. The expanded services will target families experiencing feeding difficulties, premature births, delayed milk supply, or other related challenges, with the capacity to support up to 160 mothers.
The Pathways clinic establishes an additional facility for breastfeeding and infant feeding support in the eastern part of the island, intended to improve accessibility for families in that region. The hospital-grade pumps and pump kits were funded through the Jersey Community Foundation, while the maternity recliner chair was supported by the Coop Community Fund.
