A series of leadership transitions across U.S. higher education institutions have been announced, with new presidents and chancellors assuming positions at colleges and universities throughout the country.
Jon Anderson, formerly president of Pennsylvania Western University, will become president of Utah Valley University effective Aug. 10. Benjamin Ayers, who held the position of provost at the University of Georgia, was selected as president of Clemson University starting Aug. 1. At California State University, San Bernardino, S. Terri Gomez, previously provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, will take the helm effective Aug. 2.
Community college leadership has also seen changes. Steven Bloomberg, chancellor of the Kern Community College District in California, transitioned to chancellor of Arizona’s Maricopa Community Colleges, a position he began July 1. Chuck Lloyd, vice chancellor of the Community College system of New Hampshire, has been selected chancellor of that system, effective Aug. 24. Monty Sullivan, who spent 12 years leading the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, was chosen as president and chief executive officer of the North Carolina Community College System, subject to General Assembly approval.
Additional appointments include Dan Churchwell at Kuyper College in Michigan, Tatia Daniels Granger at Averett University in Virginia effective Aug. 1, and James Fisher as interim president of PennWest University effective Aug. 10. At Southeastern Technical College in Georgia, Teresa Coleman, vice president of academic affairs, began serving as interim president June 30. Neil Terry, executive vice president and provost of West Texas A&M University, will become interim president of that institution effective Sept. 1.
