Throughout their descent, the characters traverse multiple circles inhabited by deceased souls enduring punishments reflective of their individual anxieties, yearnings and remorse. Along the way, they face supernatural threats and incarnations of human agony before their ultimate confrontation with the Devil.
Valladares has indicated the production will employ graphic depictions of suffering, drawing comparisons to films such as “Hellraiser” and “Frontier(s).” The director noted that while the adaptation aims for visceral horror, the underlying narrative centers on themes of loss, culpability and devotion. The cast includes Christopher Rygh from “Vikings: Valhalla,” along with Matthew Metcalfe, Tilda Metsola and Fadhillah Othman. Production is scheduled to commence on Sept. 7 in Rome.
Concurrently, Valladares is presenting “Invoking Scream,” a sequel to his earlier film “Invoking Yell,” which will have its world premiere on Aug. 28 at FrightFest in London. The project explores themes related to supernatural occurrences and extreme music, featuring a narrative involving three musicians who trigger a malevolent entity after discovering an occult artifact at a gravesite.
