The Sarajevo Film Festival has revealed the lineup for its Open Air program, which will showcase a selection of international and regional films at the festival’s primary venue, the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema.
Pawlikowski’s Fatherland, featuring Hanns Zischler and Sandra Hüller, will serve as the opening selection for this program section. The festival will conclude with a screening of Danis Tanović’s 2001 film No Man’s Land, a drama set in 1993 during the Bosnian war that follows two opposing soldiers trapped in a trench together.
Additional notable entries in the Open Air program include Luna’s Ashes, which explores the story of two siblings relocating from Mexico to Madrid to reunite with their mother. The program also features Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Minotaur, a film that premiered at Cannes and chronicles a company director navigating corporate pressures and personal upheaval. Shahrbanoo Sadat’s No Good Men, which opened the Berlin Film Festival, follows a television camerawoman in Kabul navigating professional opportunities and personal challenges. Other selections include Annemarie Jacir’s Palestine 36 and Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s The Beloved.
The festival separately announced an Open Air Premiere program dedicated to films from the former Yugoslav region, screened at the UNIQA Open Air Cinema Stari Grad venue. This section features regional productions including Miroslav Terzić’s 3 Weeks After, Miha Hočevar’s Hidden People, and Hari Šečić’s The Widower, among others. An audience award, the Prix Cineplexx, will be presented to the best film in this program.
The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival will take place August 14-21.
