Rocko Zevenbergen’s sci-fi horror comedy ‘Flapjax’ has entered into a worldwide sales agreement with U.K.-based Blue Finch Films, according to an announcement made ahead of the film’s world premiere at Fantastic Fest. The sales company will begin market activities for the title at the Toronto Film Festival’s newly established industry marketplace.
Blue Finch Films obtained the project through Sitges FanPitch, the pitching initiative associated with the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. The platform operates as a connection point between genre filmmakers in development stages and industry participants including producers, sales agents, and financiers seeking co-production and financing opportunities.
The film follows a fast-food manager named Arrow whose dedication to his position inadvertently facilitates an extraterrestrial civilization’s plan as he serves customers a newly introduced menu item called Flapjax. Zevenbergen co-wrote the screenplay alongside Estevan Muñoz and produced the project through Prowler Pictures alongside Aerin Chaklai, George Jones, Jefferson Moneo, Patrick Hackett, and Fabiola Caraza, with Daniel Futa, Mike Chapman, and Fatima Hayward serving as executive producers.
Zevenbergen noted the production had been in development for over six years and described the work as blending cinematic influences from directors such as Ozu and Cronenberg. The film stars Gabriel Cagan in the lead role. Hayward of Blue Finch Films characterized Zevenbergen as an emerging talent in genre cinema whose combination of body horror elements with nostalgic sensibilities creates both disturbing and emotional material. Additional titles on Blue Finch Films’ sales slate include ‘Kick On,’ selected for Toronto Midnight Madness, and ‘Misson,’ which features George MacKay and received backing from BBC Film and Screen Scotland.
